This appears to be a manufacturing defect and not subsequent damage. Cosmetically the stands look like they just came from factory, with only a few tiny marks showing by original owner.

Bose PS-3 stands for the 901 series speakers, these are black and in original box with packing assembly instructions. I can't tell for sure that these stands were never assembled, but they appear to be unused and the mounting holes on 901 series iv came with are still too tight screws fit. Update: upon reviewing the listing after posting, I see a small ripple in one of pieces that attach to speaker bottoms didn't notice while taking pics.
